 "Mesmerizing"        "Transporting"        "Gigantic"        "Liberating"        "Potent"

"Potent devotional energy that encourages everyone to join in.  Yonti is so friendly, funny, deep and irreverent at the same time...it puts everyone at ease. She sings the whole time and encourages the group to do the same so we are all one in the practice.  And her voice is always there if you feel lost or unsure.  I love it when the group really goes for it with clapping or with vocal play and harmony.  Really joyful! Definitely opens the heart!

"Yonti leads a journey of totally inclusive magic.  Her voice and her heart-field shine with Divine radiance and when she goes into trance as she does, the room goes with her.  I got so ecstatic I forgot to sing!"

"Such deeply nourishing evenings.  Yonti is such a vast 'Ma' presence in herself - a solid leader who is also soft  and gentle; she really gets out of the way so the energy can come through. The community she builds with her warmth and welcome is so sweet. "

Welcome to Ecstatic Kirtan!

There is no more primal connection to life than the voice... than the basic rhythm of hearts together... than calling out our longing and our love as though milk will flow because of our song.

Your part is to show up as you are and sing your heart.

This is not the right hand path of devotion through repetition of established forms.  This is the left hand path of surrender to the mystery.... a tantric path of bhakti.... a kind of love-making with the universe that we can all do together with our voices.

Leading means I hold the sacred womb space and open the channel.  Collectively we create what births itself inside.... earthy magic, deep permission, crazy joy, and singing what is real in the moment.  This is the fastest way I know to get out of horizontal and into vertical time:  a total alignment with the NOW.

This practice is a seed-star for how humanity may one day live...in powerful group fields where individual

contribution and expression is encouraged....where life itself is a joyful co-creation.

This is my prayer.

Come pray with me!

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is the heart-centered part of yoga known as bhakti or the yoga of devotion.  As with other forms of yoga, it aims at opening the whole human being towards awakening, towards realizing our true nature as a form of the divine.

The names of Gods and Goddesses are sung as a way of connecting to the different flavors and activities of

consciousness  --creating, playing, sustaining, nurturing, clarifying, completing, clearing, beginning again. Mantras (prayers for things like truth, love, bliss) are also put to music as a way to enhance their power to protect the mind and replace habitually unhelpful thoughts with more enlivening ones.

Why Sing?

Chanting is a powerful technology for opening the heart.  It works because it opens the body physiologically and energetically while calling on potent symbols of our largest aliveness.  When we sing we breathe deeply, which helps oxygenate the brain, reduce our heart rate and blood pressure and calm our brainwave activity.  It also has been shown to synchronize the right and left brain hemispheres,

creating more inner harmony.  The co-HERE-ence we arrive in as individuals and as a group is deeply nourishing, profoundly healing, and reminds us of how much beauty we can create through our togetherness.

While all chanting and singing have these benefits, kirtan feels especially powerful to me because it consciously honors both the divine feminine and divine masculine flavors of spirit and their potent alchemy within us and in creation.
